Sewer Maintenance, Pumping Stations and Treatment

Water & Sewer Department Infrastructure:

  • Operates 20 wastewater pumping stations.
  • Manages approximately 85 kilometers of sewers, including manholes.

Wastewater Pumping and Collection:

  • Wastewater from 5 Wing Goose Bay, North Side, Spruce Park, and MOT gathers at two wastewater pumping stations, specifically stations 20 and 21.
  • These stations directly pump wastewater to the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Mud Lake Road, eliminating wastewater discharge into the river.

Wastewater Treatment Process:

  • At the Wastewater Treatment Plant, wastewater undergoes the following treatment process:
    • Solids removal.
    • Fine particle/grit removal.
    • Aeration and settling.
    • Ultra Violet Radiation (final treatment).
  • The treated effluent water is discharged into a leaching field, where it is absorbed into the ground.
  • The plant is equipped with three lagoons and operates at an average of approximately 8,500 cubic meters of wastewater processed daily.
  • The plant operates 24/7, 365 days a year, maintaining a 91% efficiency rate.
  • Modern SCADA communications and alarm systems are in place to promptly detect any issues.
