Statement from the 14th Council
Clarifying Statement on the Facility Naming Survey
Date of Release: August 6, 2026
The Town of Happy Valley–Goose Bay has received questions and concerns about the survey regarding the naming of recreation facilities, including Husky Park. This survey does not mean any name will be changed.
From time to time, the Town receives requests to rename facilities — including Husky Park. This is not the first time such a request has been made. However, the Town currently has no formal policy that guides how naming requests should be handled. Before Council makes any decisions, we believe residents should help shape that policy.
The purpose of this survey is simple:
- to gather public input,
- to understand how residents feel about naming practices, and
- to ensure future decisions reflect the community’s values.
Council will not change the name of Husky Park — or any facility — unless it is clear that residents support such a change. Your voice will guide the process, and nothing will move forward without community direction.
We encourage everyone to complete the survey and share their views. This is about building a transparent, community‑driven approach so that future naming decisions are made fairly, consistently, and with respect for the community’s history.
Thank you for taking the time to participate and help shape a policy that reflects the pride and identity of Happy Valley–Goose Bay.
