Community Mourns the Passing of Jody Burry
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jody Burry, a former resident and lifelong volunteer in our community.
Jody retired from Labrador-Grenfell Health in July 2021 after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives through his compassion, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond for those in his care. He was especially devoted to the residents of Paddon Home, where he wore many hats over the years—driving the bus, calling bingo games, organizing boil-ups, dressing as Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, taking residents on outings to Wilburn Bay and Switchback, treating them to ice cream, and ensuring they experienced joy, dignity, and meaningful moments. Whether wiping a nose, sharing a laugh, or preparing a moose fry, Jody made everyone feel valued.
Our deepest condolences to Jody’s wife, Karen, his family, and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. In recognition, the Town has lowered the flags until sunset on the day of his funeral service, June 5, 2026.
