Statement from Mayor Pomeroy and the 14th Council of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay regarding rental accommodations
Public Service Announcement
RELEASED December 17, 2025
Beginning March 1, 2026, all rental accommodations – including short-term rentals such as Airbnbs, as well as lodging units – are required to be registered, permitted, and in compliance with provincial and municipal requirements.
Our community’s legitimate accommodations providers have long contributed through business taxes and adherence to land use regulations. It is important that all operators meet the same responsibilities to ensure fairness in the marketplace.
To support this, all short-term rental operators, including lodging units, must file a discretionary land use application and obtain approval from Council. This process helps ensure that operations are safe, lawful, and respectful of the broader community.
We are committed to protecting legitimate businesses and ensuring that all operators contribute fairly. Compliance is required: register, obtain the necessary permits, and follow provincial and municipal requirements. Those who do not comply will be subject to enforcement measures.
For more information on the application process, please contact the Town Office during regular business hours. Holiday hours are available on our website www.townhvgb.com.
