Lori Dyson
Councillor
Lori Dyson was born and raised in Happy Valley. Sports, recreation, community volunteering and advocacy have been a lifelong passion for her. She was the original founder of HVGB Special Olympics in 1987 when it started with a lone swimmer that quickly grew to a full team involved in multiple sports and various competitions. She spent 10 years taking the athletes to local, regional, provincial and national competitions across the country. Lori was an integral part of the success of Labradorians for Peaceful Communities which morphed into Violence Prevention Labrador, where she sat in various capacities, including 7 years as Chairperson over her 21-year volunteer tenure.
She advocates tirelessly for better medical services for all Labrador residents, especially seniors, and she volunteers a lot of her time with youth sports, elders in the community and fundraisers. Lori’s passion has always been making life better in some way, shape or form for others. Aside from prior co-ownership and operation of a hotel in Makkovik in the past, her work has always focused on enhancing the lives of all indigenous populations, from children to elders, in various capacities. Lori currently works as the coordinator of program support with the TradesNL: Indigenous Skilled Trades Office.
Lori is an active Mom, Gramma and Aunt and has come full circle to live life back exactly where she was raised – in the ‘lower valley’!
