Deputy Mayor Jackie Compton-Hobbs

Deputy Mayor

A lifelong resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Deputy Mayor Jackie Compton Hobbs is deeply committed to building a strong, inclusive, and vibrant community. First elected to Council in 2013 and now serving as Deputy Mayor, Jackie brings years of experience in public service, community leadership, and advocacy to her role.

During her previous terms on Council, Jackie served as Chair of several key committees, including Community Planning and Development, Community Services and Recreation, and Protective Services. Through these roles, she helped guide initiatives that strengthened local infrastructure, supported community programming, and enhanced public safety across the town.

Beyond her Council work, Jackie has long been an active volunteer and advocate, serving on numerous boards and committees such as the Mokami Status of Women Council, the John Howard Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Community Accessibility Plan Committee, and Labrador-Grenfell Health’s Community Advisory Council, to name a few. Her dedication to community health, women’s empowerment, accessibility, and social inclusion has made a meaningful impact both locally and provincially.

As Deputy Mayor, Jackie continues to champion affordable housing, community safety, and strong partnerships with local non-profits and businesses. She is passionate about restoring community pride and spirit, and believes deeply in the principle that “it takes a village to raise a child.” Jackie is proud to call Happy Valley-Goose Bay her lifelong home and remains committed to ensuring it is a welcoming, thriving place for all.
