Town Reminds Residents of Prohibited Motorized Vehicle Use on Multi-Use Trail
The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is reminding residents that the community’s multi-use walking and cycling trail “bike trail” is intended for pedestrians, cyclists, runners, and other non-motorized users only. The use of passenger vehicles, trucks, ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, motorcycles, and other unauthorized motorized vehicles on the trail is strictly prohibited.
Completed last fall, the upgraded trail was designed to provide a safe, accessible, and enjoyable recreational space for residents and visitors. Unauthorized motorized vehicle use creates significant safety risks for trail users and can result in damage to the trail surface, signage, and supporting infrastructure.
Mayor and Council wish to emphasize that protecting this important community asset is a shared responsibility. Damage caused by unauthorized vehicle use increases maintenance and repair costs, placing an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.
Individuals found operating unauthorized motorized vehicles on the multi-use trail will be subject to enforcement action. Penalties may include substantial fines, vehicle removal, seizure and impoundment, recovery of damages, and prosecution to the fullest extent permitted. Enforcement and monitoring efforts will continue, with all appropriate measures being taken to safeguard public safety and protect municipal infrastructure.
Residents are encouraged to respect the intended use of the trail and help preserve this valuable community investment for current and future generations.
