Supervisor of Assessment and Taxation (Full-Time Maternity Leave Replacement)

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay seeks to employ a full-time Supervisor of Assessment and Taxation for a maternity leave replacement. This is a non-unionized position. The estimated duration is March 2026 to March 2027.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services (DCS) or their designate, the Supervisor of Assessment and Taxation (SAT) will administer all aspects of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay’s taxation and assessment process. The SAT shall develop a close working relationship with the Municipal Assessment Agency and the Engineering Department to ensure that new properties and supplementary assessments are identified and added to the Town’s assessment roll. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining procedures and protocols that will promote the convenient collection of taxes and other receivables. The SAT will work closely with the DCS, prepare monthly and annual financial reports, and prepare for the annual audit process. The SAT is also responsible for the supervision of staff.
The successful candidate must have completed at minimum a three-year diploma in Business or Accounting or have seven years in related work experience with some applicable formal training. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience is also required.

- Highly developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Possess a strong analytical aptitude
- Demonstrated project management and leadership skills
- Ability and capacity to work autonomously with excellent time management skills
- A high degree of confidentiality in dealing with sensitive municipal issues
- Proficient in the use of computers especially Microsoft Office programs
- Experience or an understanding of Municipal Governance and relevant legislation
- Must possess a valid NL Class 5 driverβs license and provide a current driverβs abstract
- Clear certificates of conduct including an RCMP Criminal Record Check, and a Provincial Court Check is a condition of employment, as well as bondable
