Bert Pomeroy

Councillor - Chair – Finance, Adminstration & Policy Committee

Bert Pomeroy is a long-time resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, having moved to the community in 1990 to assume the position of Editor with the Labradorian newspaper. After a 14-year career as a journalist, he took on the position as Director of Communications with the provincial Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. He spent some time as a freelance journalist, for both print and television, and provided communications support and advice to various groups and organizations. He currently works as the Director of Communications for the Nunatsiavut Government.

Mr. Pomeroy was first elected to serve as a member of the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Council in 2013, and re-elected in 2017. In January 2018, he was chosen by his fellow council members to serve as Deputy Mayor, a position he held until September 2021. He was re-elected to Council during a by-election on December 19, 2022, and currently serves as Chair of the Town’s Protective Services Committee. He is also a member of the Community Services and Recreation Committee and the Community Development and Planning Committee.

Bert and his wife, Karen, have two children and three grandchildren, and are proud to call Happy Valley-Goose Bay home.
