Summer Safety
Release Date: June 19, 2025

As the end of the school year approaches, the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is reminding residents about the importance of keeping our children safe throughout the summer months.   Children will be excited and may not be thinking about their personal safety, so drivers need to be extra cautious!

Here are tips for keeping our children safe this summer.
-Slow down and take extra precautions when driving in school zones or approaching a school bus. Remember that the maximum speed limit in residential areas is 40 km/hr and 30 km/hr in school zones.

– Parents / Guardians should educate children on the proper use of crosswalks. Use a marked crosswalk whenever possible and wait for traffic to stop completely before crossing the street. Children may be crossing roads to get to playgrounds or trails, so drivers, be aware!

-Make sure your children always wear a helmet when biking, skateboarding, rollerblading, or riding a scooter. Remember, parental supervision is required for the operation of ATV’s if your children are under 16.

-Educate your children about Playground Safety. Teaching kids how to play safely is important: If they know the rules of the playground, they’re less likely to get hurt. If you notice any safety issues with playground equipment, please report it through Access E11 at any time and identify if the issue is urgent. You can also call the after-hours number for emergencies at 709-896-2212.

The Mayor, Council, and Staff of the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay wish everyone a safe and happy summer!
