UPDATE: Air Travel in Labrador

On Tuesday , October 8, 2024 Mayor George Andrews and Rex Goudie, CEO of the Goose Bay Airport Corporation presented to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities on the Competition Act and Air Travel in Northern, Rural and Remote Communities. Affordable and reliable air transportation in the North will require new policy changes to better reflect the unique needs of northern regions and we were most pleased to be given the opportunity to present to this parliamentary committee.
Mayor Andrews and Mr. Goudie outlined the challenges we are experiencing in the region and asked the committee to recognize that air travel in the North be deemed as an essential service. A number of recommendations were presented for the committee’s consideration to foster more equitable access for communities in remote Northern regions like Labrador. The Town of Happy Valley -Goose Bay will be submitting a more detailed brief in the coming weeks.
