His Worship, Mayor Bert Pomeroy, has been a proud resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay most of his life, having moved to the community 35 years ago to begin a long and accomplished career in journalism and public service. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a skilled communicator, strategic planner, and community leader.
With decades of experience in communications, Mr. Pomeroy has led the development and execution of public engagement strategies, advised senior officials on communications policy, and managed teams responsible for media relations, crisis response, and stakeholder outreach. He is trained in media and crisis communications and has completed advanced professional development through Memorial University’s Gardiner Centre, Saint Mary’s University, the University of Ottawa, and McLoughlin Media.
Mr. Pomeroy’s municipal leadership began in 2013 with his election to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Town Council. He was re-elected in 2017 and served as Deputy Mayor from 2018 to 2021. After returning to Council in 2022, he chaired the Municipal Services Committee and contributed to several others, including Development and Planning, Finance Administration and Policy, and Protective Services. On October 2, 2025, Mr. Pomeroy was elected Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Bert and his wife, Karen, are proud parents of two children and grandparents to three wonderful granddaughters.
