Youth Travel Assistance

Purpose

Our commitment is to handle all Youth Travel Assistance requests fairly, consistently, and in line with local needs, priorities, and budgetary constraints. The availability of funding determines the extent of our assistance.

Scope

This policy applies to community organizations, charitable groups, and individuals working with the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. It pertains to those seeking support for youth travel to represent our town in sporting events or competitions.

To be eligible for this assistance, the following criteria must be met:

  • Team members must be residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
  • The team or individual should have earned the right to attend the event.
  • The event must be recognized by a National or Provincial Sport Governing Body or School Board.
  • This support is limited to individuals aged 19 and under.
  • Travel should be beyond Upper Lake Melville.

Application Process

For event-related applications, submission should occur at least one month before the event. You can access the Youth Travel Assistance application by clicking the link provided.

Approval Process

The Director of Financial Operations will review each application for completeness, with incomplete submissions not considered.

Applications will be summarized, assessed for eligibility, and recommended to the Council through the Finance Committee by the Director of Financial Operations.

A two-thirds vote of the Councilors in office, per section 99 of the Municipalities Act, 1999, will determine Travel Assistance approval.

Approved Travel Assistance does not imply a future commitment. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of donations or sponsorships provided to any organization or individual each year. We do not consider retroactive requests.

Applicants will receive notice of approval or denial, along with reasons for any denial.
